Contextual colors

At Muuto, color is at the center of our universe, rooted in the belief that color influences how we feel in the spaces that we inhabit. We are surrounded by color every waking moment, whether it is the painted shade of our living room wall, the upholstery of a sofa in the lobby area of a hotel or the tabletop hue of our desk at work. Bright or dark, vibrant or subtle, colors influence our perception of spaces and how we feel when in the presence of them.

COLOR IS SUBJECTIVE

Color has been an integral part of everyday life for humans since forever. How we perceive colors is influenced by our cultural and social identity, making color an entirely subjective thing. Though our way of seeing color differs from person to person, the influence of color on our everyday lives is clear: The colors that we encounter have the potential to affect how we feel, whether it be relaxed, energized, reflective, inspired or any other emotion.

Our senses decide whether a given color make us feel inspired, at ease or energized. What evokes these feelings within us can be anything from the soft warmth of wood over a vibrant rose textile to the elegance of polished aluminum.

WORKING WITH THE CONTEXT OF COLOR

How we experience color is formed in relation to all the elements around it—the colors of its surroundings, the shape on which the color appears, the texture onto which it is applied, the amount of a color that is used within a room and the atmosphere that we experience the color in.

This means that our perception of color is in constant motion. The Muuto color scheme is an ever-evolving creative process. We strive to be curious and evolve our color palette and continuously work with various approaches to colors, seeking to challenge and drive our color profile forward. We never just apply one color across all of our designs; instead it’s a careful search for the right colors for the right surfaces, materials and shapes. We experiment, we test and we adjust new hues, bringing unique shades that complement the existing colors in our universe.
