our guess is, you're located in

    designing
    for healthier indoor
    climates

A lot of our time is spent indoors, be it at home, in the workplace, or at a café or restaurant. These are hours that are often spent without access to fresh air while being exposed to a variety of potentially harmful factors, including humidity, air, heat, lighting, chemical substances and more.

As a result of this, the climates of the indoor spaces that we inhabit have become increasingly important in relation to employee health, prompting us to be conscious about the objects that we surround ourselves with throughout the day and the effects that these can have on indoor climates and, ultimately, our wellbeing.

At Muuto, we create furniture designs that are placed in spaces where they are used for many years into the future. When a furniture product is placed in a room, it will emit a certain degree of its matter, known as volatile organic compounds, or VOCs, over time. How much it emits depends on its unique composition of materials.

We want to ensure that our products emit low volumes of VOC, making them contribute to healthier indoor climates. For this reason, the majority of our furniture collection has undergone so-called VOC-testing to determine the amount of volatile organic compounds that are emitted from a product.

By doing so, we can verify that our products are within acceptable indoor air-quality thresholds and, through that, contribute to healthier indoor climates.

For testing, we use the ANSI/BIFMA M7.1-method, a highly recognized test within our industry, to evaluate our products’ compliance to CDPH 01350 and the ANSI/BIFMA X7.1-criteria.
