We work with some of Europe’s leading leather suppliers to ensure that the leather used in our designs is of the highest quality possible. All natural leather used in Muuto products has been sourced from either Scandinavian or European cattle. We design with several types of leather, from aniline and semi-aniline leather to imitation leather.
Natural leather and imitation leather are two distinct categories of leathers, each with their own set of characteristics. Natural leather such as aniline or semi-aniline is made from animal hides. These offer a pleasant feel, develop a unique patina over time, and are more durable and breathable. Imitation leather is made from synthetic fibers and mimics the appearance of genuine leather. It is a more affordable alternative often easier to clean and maintain.
How to care
for natural leather
Natural leather does not perform well in dry air and sunlight.
As a precautionary measure, we redommend placing leather-upholstered furniture away from direct sunlight and keeping it away from highly air-conditioned rooms, as these can make the leather fade or dry out.
Regular care of the leather helps maintain its inherent qualities, prolonging the lifespan of its surface.
